UCSB’s Athletic Director Announces Retirement

Dr. Gary Cunningham, athletic director at UCSB since 1995, will retire at the end of 2008, he announced on 1/8. A national search will take place to find a replacement for Cunningham, who improved the UCSB program in many ways. UCSB has won six of the last seven Big West Conference Commissioner’s Cups, given to the conference’s all-sports champion, and Cunningham is credited with hiring some of the program’s most successful coaches.
