Terpsikhore; July 2008
The debut full-length offering from Sunfold (a side project of the existing band Annuals), Toy Tugboats, is filled with touches of jazz, folk, and soft rock. Whether the album is described as feel-good music or as your typical coffeehouse soundtrack, the vocals remain impressive, as do the arrangements. The lyrics are interesting, but could easily benefit from some greater range and complexity. The highlight of the album, “Gorgee de Rubis,” has a strong beat that gives off a smart-tongued, almost electronic vibe. For a side project from an already impressive band, Sunfold surprisingly deliver on their first try.
