After posting his story on the first day of the Gap Fire at 2:20am, Ray Ford rose early on day two to tag along with local and state crews -- to get some 6 am shots.
The only folks working harder than Ray are those putting shovels, saws, pulauskis, hoses, water, and retardant to good use, the crews and support staff fighting on our behalf.

Ray,
Great photos and great reporting. Glad to see the Indy is on top of this new fire.
Here we go again. Last year, at this time, we had the Zaca, now the Gap.
Let's hope this one does not go the same direction.

Ray,
I learned to depend on your reports during the Zaca fire. When I heard about the Gap fire, I went straight to the Independent online to find out from you what's really going on.
Thank you for doing such a fine job. I hope this one's brief.

Hi Ray,
I have been enjoying your articles in the Independent this last year or two. Your coverage of the wilderness areas and the fires is much appreciated.
