Some areas previously under mandatory evacuation orders due to the Gap Fire have been downgraded to “evacuation warning” effective at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, Santa Barbara County officials have announced.

However, the Mandatory Evacuation Order remains in effect for the areas north of Cathedral Oaks Road which are also east of Fairview Road to Poinsettia Way.This includes the neighborhoods of West Camino Cielo, Windermere Ranch, the Haney Tract, Kinevan Road, the Trout Club, Hidden Valley (near Highway 154) and the Painted Cave area, Farren Road and Rancho Embarcadero, including the Vereda Del Ciervo and Vereda Leyenda areas.

Neighborhoods that were previously under mandatory evacuation order but where residents will now be let back into their homes—only with proper identification—because the order has been reduced to a warning are those lying north of Cathedral Oaks Road between Winchester Canyon Road and Fairview Road. This includes all of Fairview Road and all residences accessed from North Fairview Road.

The relaxation of the order also applies to all of La Patera Canyon, Glen Annie Canyon (including the Glen Annie Golf Course), Winchester Canyon, and Ellwood Canyon including Ellwood Ranch.

The geographic areas described include the following streets:

  • La Goleta Rd
  • Langlo Ranch Rd
  • Las Cruces Ct
  • Manzanillo Dr
  • Marguerita Dr
  • Northgate Dr

Hmmm. The City of Goleta got a downgrade in the mandatory evac order; but we who live JUST north of Cathedral Oaks in the North Patterson area can't go home, despite the fact that we are not in the danger area any longer. We have county representation only, in Supervisor Wolf, who seems to be present only for photo ops. I wonder if we'd get better attention if we were a city, and not Noleta.

For a map with all of the current evacuation areas, visit maps.google.com, and search for "Gap Fire Evacuations." I have created a map with that name, that I am updating with the evacuation order and warning areas, extent of the fire, information kiosks, and other points of interest. Feel free to leave comments on the map if there are any features you would like to see.
