Yahoo!The start date of the Highway 101 Operational Improvements project, one of the largest Caltrans projects in Santa Barbara County to date, has been postponed. Previously, 7/8 marked the commencement of initial staging and placement of traffic dividers, but due to the contractors’ revised scheduling, no work will begin before 7/12. It has not yet been determined when the construction will start on the $53 million project.

A 7/9 kick-off ceremony marked the beginning improvements to Highway 154. The eastbound turnout area, the turning lanes into Vista Point, the turning lanes at Paradise Road, and a westbound passing lane east of Route 246 will all be improved. Construction will be done during daytime hours behind concrete barriers, and the highway will remain open, with passing lanes temporarily closing as needed.

A major heat wave is expected to hit the Santa Barbara area next week, and the Santa Barbara County Department of Public Health is advising residents and visitors to the area to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness and dehydration. Public Health cautions the elderly and those with medical conditions to be especially careful, to stay hydrated and in cool, shaded areas, and to limit physical activity.
