Yahoo!Los Angeles resident David Bautista, 30, drowned on 7/4 after diving into the shallow Santa Ynez River at Paradise Road. According County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Alex Tipolt, it’s unknown how long Bautista was in the water before being pulled to shore. He was then airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, but died on the way.

Southern California Edison (SCE) continues to encourage energy conservation for all Santa Barbara County residents in order to help prevent further blackouts. More than 48,000 people have lost power since the Gap Fire began on 7/1. SCE spokesperson Jane Brown reminds all county citizens that blackouts are unpredictable and urged all to leave unnecessary electronics off and keep flashlights handy. Edison crews are standing by in case of more outages.

In cooperation with the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Police Department sent a number of its officers to view the exhibit housed at the Bronfman Family Jewish Community Center on 7/7 and 7/8. Titled Portraits of Survival, the exhibit tells the stories of Santa Barbara residents who survived the Holocaust in an attempt to foster tolerance. The officers saw the exhibit to help them reach out to youth who have been discriminated against.
