The National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration awarded Tecolote Research Inc. of Goleta a $32.5 million contract to perform analytical and technical support work for two next-generation satellite programs. The National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System and the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite Series- R will monitor weather systems for global warming effects in accordance with the Defense Department’s meteorological program.

The Teamsters started leafleting shoppers this week, urging them to boycott stores that advertise in the Santa Barbara News-Press. Union attorney Ira Gottlieb said the paper’s ownership is not bargaining in good faith. Newsroom employees overwhelmingly voted for Teamster representation in 2006, but the paper’s ownership, despite the loss of pertinent court cases and the loss of scores of employees who have quit or been fired, continues to resist unionization.
