As part of KJEE deejay Phat J’s Localize It, local singer-songwriter-puppeteer-artsit-o’-all-trades Matthew McAvene will have the release party for his new CD, Shadowland EP, this Wednesday, March 26, at the Sandbar. McAvene, who spent several years traveling, learning, renouncing, and apprenticing, has landed in Santa Barbara, and is definitely making his mark here. He’s opened for the Wailers, Michael Franti & Spearhead, and ALO; his music and art was featured at the Solutions for Dreamers Festival in 2007; and his band won last year’s FM107.7 Battle of the Bands. McAvene’s shows are as much a treat for the eyes as for the ears, and are always worth checking out.
