Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 44-year-old man who allegedly entered through a roof entrance at the City Market in Carpinteria and stole roughly $14,000 in cash and property.
An alarm call alerted authorities of the break-in at the market, 501 Linden Ave., on Tuesday, April 29. When deputies arrived they found the market had been burglarized, but the suspect had fled. The next morning, detectives “obtained information” — although it isn’t clear what exactly — that led them to the home of Carpinteria resident Wayne Fulton the following day. After speaking with Fulton, detectives found “inconsistencies in his story,” according to a press release from Sgt. Alex Tipolt, and obtained a warrant. The warrant search uncovered roughly $8,400 in cash, in addition to other evidence. They also found $800 in his vehicle.
The man was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for commercial burglary on $20,000 bail.
