Duck Season

The California Department of Fish and Game recently announced a contest to determine the design of the state’s 2009 duck stamp. The competition is open to U.S. residents 18 years and older. Artists’ designs will be accepted from Sunday, March 1, through Thursday, April 30, 2009. Visit dfg.ca.gov/about/duckstamp for rules and information.

Welcome to the Goodland

Goleta’s Goodland Gallery (7044 Marketplace Dr.) opens to the public with a special celebration party on Friday, November 14, from 5-8 p.m. The showspace will feature works by artists across the U.S., including gifts, jewelry, and fine art. Call 968-1200 for details.

A Night at the Opera

To celebrate the 150th birthday of composer Giacomo Puccini, the Granada Theatre will be hosting a special evening of celebration this Saturday, November 15. A fine, four-course Italian meal will be served onstage and paired with live operatic performances of Puccini’s classics. The musician’s granddaughter, Simonetta Puccini, will also be on hand for the event. Tickets are $195. Call 898-3890 for info.
