Santa Barbara Football Game Moved to Saturday

Westmont Coaches Lose Homes in Fire

The Tea Fire has caused numerous local sporting events to be moved or cancelled this weekend.

The football game between Santa Barbara High and Ventura will be played at 4 p.m. Saturday at Ventura’s Larrabee Stadium. Santa Barbara was originally slated to host the game Friday night. Second place in the Channel League is at stake in the regular-season finale.

Bishop Diego High, out of the running for a CIF playoff berth, has cancelled its game against Oak Park that was to be played at SBCC.

San Marcos will play its final game at 4:30 p.m. Friday on the St. Bonaventure campus in Ventura. Dos Pueblos will travel to Buena for its Friday night finale instead of hosting the Bulldogs.

Westmont College, severely impacted by the fire, cancelled the women’s volleyball games scheduled this weekend. The Warriors will vie for the GSAC men’s soccer championship on Monday at Azusa Pacific. Game time is 2 p.m.

Westmont’s basketball teams are on the road, the men playing in the Robert Morris Las Vegas Shootout, the women at the Mountain West Bank Classic in Montana.

Three Westmont coaches lost their homes among the 14 faculty houses destroyed by the fire, according to a press release from the school. It was reported on Facebook that soccer coach Dave Wolf, also the athletic director, lost his home, as did cross-country and track coach Russell Smelley and tennis coach Kathy LeSage.
