I enjoy your weekly very much and everything that it tries to accomplish, but, I would be remiss if I did not bring to your attention an error in your last issue [“News of the Week,” 10/13/08, independent.com/cinemasmoke]. The Independent reported on a 911 Fire Department response call to our theatre, Paseo Nuevo Cinemas, when smoke was detected in one of the auditoriums before we opened to the public. At no time during the Fire Department’s investigation and occupation of our theater were there "theatergoers" in the building, as we had not opened for the day.
We take any and all emergency calls extremely seriously here at Paseo Nuevo Cinemas, whether before operating hours or during, and your bolded sentence-ender [“ … and theatergoers were not evacuated.”] implies otherwise. My staff and I would consider it a kindness if you would please be more responsible with your reporting in the future. — Scoff Durfor, manager, MTC Paseo Nuevo Cinemas
