Former 3rd District supervisor candidate Dr. David Bearman endorsed Steve Pappas in the 11/4 runoff election for the position. Bearman received 1,472 of the votes, and may help Pappas in Isla Vista and at UCSB, where Pappas struggled. Bearman cited Pappas’s experience in elected office as reasons why he endorsed him over his opponent, Doreen Farr. (/bearman1002)

Vandenberg Air Force Base launched a modified Minuteman ballistic missile on 9/23 as part of a Missile Defense Agency effort to better intercept hostile missile attacks. A Near Field Infared Experiment satellite examined the Vandenberg-launched projectile’s plume so strategists can better understand its characteristics and, in the long run, more quickly identify and eliminate airborne threats. (/vandenberg1002)
