The 24th Santa Barbara International Film Festival will honor British actress Kristin Scott Thomas with the Cinema Vanguard Award. The award “was created in recognition of an actor who has forged his or her own path - taking artistic risks and making a significant and unique contribution to film,” according to the release by the SBIFF.
This year’s film festival will take place from January 22 to February 1, 2009, and Scott Thomas will receive her award on January 27.
Scott Thomas is known for undertaking difficult and diverse roles. Her most well-known films are Gosford Park and The English Patient, for which she was nominated for an Academy award. More recently, Scott Thomas starred in the French film Tell No One and will soon appear in the films I’ve Loved You So Long (Il y a Longtemps que je t’aime) and Confessions of a Shopaholic.
Last year, the award was titled the Independent Award, and was given to Ryan Gosling. This year it was changed to the Cinema Vanguard Award.
Hannah Rothman is an Independent intern.

My favorite performance from her is "Under the Cherry Moon". Probably because of all the Prince songs.
