    New Yorker Nate Birkey will be swinging by his old stomping grounds to make an appearance at SOhO (1221 State St.) on Wednesday, August 12, for an evening of contemplative jazz. The Colorado native and UCSB alum will perform music from his latest release, Almost Home, and will reunite with fellow West Coast players in a quintet of romantic melodies. $8. Call 962-7776.
