With all the fires we’ve had of late, our Red Cross chapter has been working overtime providing shelter, food, and care for the tens of thousands who were evacuated during the blazes. To fund their good works, the Red Cross, which is a nonprofit supported by volunteers and donations, is having a benefit event called Gala in the Grecian Gardens. The event includes dancing, food, music, and Greek mythological characters who will mingle with the crowd. Check out Twitter.com/SBRedCross for tweets with clues on how to win prizes such as free tickets to the gala, drinks, and a deluxe VIP package for the event. For tickets ($50 for general; $75 for VIP), call 687-1331 or go online at sbredcross.org. It happens on Saturday, August 29, from 6:30-10 p.m. at the S.B. Greek Orthodox Church (1205 San Antonio Creek Rd., 683-4492).
