The latest slice of heaven from this Ventura-based indie duo is chock-full of catchy guitar and melodically mellow vocals that have a knack for making the listener feel like a little kid again. Their first full-length since 2006’s Written in a Year with a Lot of Rain delivers again and again, making it hard to skip songs and harder still to pick a favorite. The Spires have really achieved something by keeping listeners in the same fuzzy, dream-like state throughout the album without ever letting the sound get repetitive, and songs “TAM” and “Ballad of the Spires” really shine through the hazy pleasantry. “Everything and Nothing at Once” is especially worth more than a few listens, with hypnotic guitars and airy drums that sound like the soundtrack to a meteor shower. In short, it’s perfect listening for when you’re in a good mood, or when you need a little nudge to get there.
