The Santa Barbara International Film Festival has announced Quentin Tarantino as the recipient of 2009’s Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film. The actor/producer/writer/director will be the fourth to take home the honor, which will be awarded at a black-tie dinner on Thursday, October 22, at the Four Seasons Biltmore. Douglas will be on hand to present the title.


The Santa Barbara Public Library (40 E. Anapamu St.) plays host to Wait ‘Til Next Year, a tribute event for the currently on-hold Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference and Santa Barbara Book and Author Festival. The free celebration will take place Friday, September 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. and is open to the public. Visit
