If spirits will help you get into the holiday spirit this year, be sure to catch this weekend’s Holiday Urban Wine Trail Tour. Passengers will sample limited-release vino from 11 different wineries during a chauffeured tour of the city’s downtown Funk Zone wineries, all while the safest designated driver-the S.B. Trolley Company-takes care of the transportation. In addition to all the fun you’ll have riding the trolley and tasting varietals, you’ll also be supporting a good cause: A portion of the tour’s proceeds will be donated to the Unity Shoppe. The trolley departs at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 5. Tickets are $50, and it’s for ages 21+. Call 886-0613 for meet-up location and for more info.

Whoo-hoo...burn up those livers! All booze, all the time!
Never mind shopping at local stores, looking at the beautiful beaches and landmarks, etc....go take a bar tour instead.
And it's all OK, because "a portion" (by the way...nobody mentions exactly how MUCH) of the $50.00 (remember, these are high-class winos, folks), goes to the Unity Shoppe.
And hey, there's lots of bars downtown, so you can pub crawl until you hurl out the trolley window.
Start out with the oh-so-chi-chi "tasting rooms" (fancy name for a bar) and pretend it's not really alcohol...then you can progress to the more honesty flat-out bars all over downtown.
Yeah! Cut me off a slice of that! If we work at selling this wine thing hard enough, we can get rid of all the other pesky businesses and just drown ourselves in booze. Claiming all the while that it isn't REALLY booze...
Oh...before I forget...when the Booze Bus drops the winos off at their SUV's to drive themselves home, then what?
Or is the Booze Bus going to haul all the drunks straight to their homes to sleep it off without involving the rest of us in their wine swilling and its inevitable result?
Don't drink and drive, people. And oh yeah...wine IS alcohol and people DO get drunk from consuming it.

Different Holly, different perspective:
It sounds like a great event and I'm looking forward to attending!
Thanks to all those who have worked to organize this event. Santa Barbara is blessed to have the Unity Shoppe and so many local businesses who work together in the spirit of community. (No, I'm not involved with the event nor any participating businesses. Just an attendee who appreciates holiday events, particularly those with the duel purpose of supporting local charities.)
Note to those attending this or any other events where alcohol is served: Please celebrate responsibly. Arrange for a designated driver, or call one of the many local cabs in town to keep the holidays safe for all!
Happy Holidays.

"be sure to catch this weekend's Holiday Urban Wine Trail Tour."
"Urban" and "trail"...when I think of "trail" I think of being out in the wilderness. Just a thought.
