Andrea Whiting

Music to our ears: Since signing on as an arts intern here at The Independent, recent UCSB grad Andrea Whiting has covered everything from coffee table books to chaotic rock concerts, all with a smile on her face. The 22-year-old alum, who just received her English degree, is keen on all things art-related, but has most notably had her finger on the pulse of S.B.’s ever-burgeoning music scene in recent weeks. When reflecting on her new career as a music journo, Whiting cited the recent Girls show at Muddy Waters as her favorite assignment to date. “I have no idea how every hipster in Santa Barbara fit in there,” she remarked. “Also, writing concert reviews gives me a great excuse to chat up musicians after they play a gig,” she added. “I love enjoying a show as a fan, scribbling some notes, and then being able to go back and discuss musical influences and directions as a writer.”
