¡Maestra de Ingles! The next time you’re confronted with an unrecognizable word or passage, hit up Katherine Ferry: She’ll figure it out. The UC Davis graduate, who studied linguistics and takes great pleasure in deciphering mysterious lexical puzzles, started working for The Independent to sharpen her own writing. But before Ferry joined our intern ranks, the Goleta native lived in Michoac¡n, Mexico, working as a teacher in public schools for a fledgling nonprofit. Nowadays, Ferry continues working with kids through the enrichment center Spark, putting her fluent Spanish to good use.
