LARGELY SPEAKING: Independent intern Joey Large may not be in charge yet, but if ambition were measured in words per minute, he’d already own every paper in the county. A Malibu native nearing the end of his time at Santa Barbara City College, Large spent his holiday break writing up news stories. This loquacious lad has previously written and edited for SBCC’s campus paper, the Channels. When asked to compare the Channels and The Independent, he offered this: “At the Channels, I definitely had the foulest mouth, but I think Nick Welsh might give me the boot on that one here.” Large-who also has worked as a lab assistant at SBCC under Indy arts writer Brett Leigh Dicks-hopes to transfer to UCSB in the fall and pursue a biology major.
