Judge J. William McLafferty [News, “Disorder in the Court,” 5/28/09] is a man who does not recognize the law of proper venue, in one case assuming jurisdiction over a person residing for years in another county.
This is a man who personally, time and time again, has taken away the very freedom of a person, without due medical or psychiatric evidence, in most cases allowing a personal conservator or guardian to literally limit if not totally restrict visitation by, or normal relationship with, loved ones—and in all cases separating the victim from his money.
In fact, the only elderly persons not at risk from the rulings of this man are those who are financially poor.
Let us also pray that the exposing of this man’s human rights abuses results in the total disgrace he deserves, and freedom at last for his victims. It is most unfortunate that some of his victims have already died in a total state of loneliness, despair, and frustration at complete loss of freedom and separation from loved ones. Can you even imagine being an active 80-year-old, able to walk miles every day, free to walk on the beaches, visit new places, visit with friends and loved ones, watch your favorite TV programs, attend the church of your choice—being confined to mainly sitting all day; forced to take unneeded and unwanted medical drugs, no longer getting physical therapies and a proper diet that impresses even your doctor, etc., etc.
It is way past time to expose not just the judge, but all the evildoers who profit from this type of human rights abuse. — Ron Libert
