    Where: 1054 Alisal Rd., Solvang; 688-7784; alisal.com.

What: Influenced by techniques and traditions of ranching communities, bold and simple flavors are highlighted at Alisal Ranch’s restaurant.

How Much: Breakfast entrées $5.50-$10.50, lunch sandwiches $9.50-$11.50, dinner entrées $16-$24.

The Dish: Located at Solvang’s Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort, the River Grill serves up ranch-style cuisine with a Western flair. Savory red oak-grilled specialties are prepared with a rustic char characteristic of Santa Maria technique. A wraparound patio overlooks the resort’s famed golf course and can accommodate as many as 200 guests. This stunning outdoor space surrounds the restaurant’s interior whose panoramic windows, stacked stone fireplace, and high-beamed ceiling create a sense of inviting warmth. Hearty breakfast specialties include airy buttermilk pancakes, homemade blueberry syrup-drizzled French toast, and a red oak-smoked salmon scramble. Lunch is a delightful mix of hot and cold sandwiches, Mexi-fresh tortilla soup, grilled skirt steak tacos, and Black Angus tenderloin sliders. After a day on horseback or walking the golf course, dinner rewards with grilled brined pork chop, grilled organic Scottish salmon steak, and Portabella mushroom Napoleon with grilled vegetables.
