A bill that would provide funds for a lower Mission Creek flood control project passed out of the State Senate and is on its way to the Assembly. The bill is authored by state Sen. Tony Strickland and co-authored by Assemblymember Pedro Nava. The 1.3-mile project would widen the banks of the creek channel to prevent flooding. Rep. Lois Capps also recently announced the project would receive $600,000 in federal stimulus money, in addition to $400,000 in federal funds already secured for the project.
As the county searches for a permanent director for its Planning and Development department and current director John Baker retires at the end of the month, long-time employee Dianne Black has been named interim director. The supervisors unanimously chose Black during a closed session on 6/16. Baker has served as a contracted director since July 2006 and will be retiring at the end of this month.
