Ebb and Flow

Need an official excuse to watch the waves all day? Get out your goggles, slather on your SPF, and brush up on your breaststroke: This week, S.B. County is hosting its annual summer lifeguard tryouts. Potential lifeguards-who find themselves spending this summer safeguarding Jalama, Hendry’s, or another of S.B. County’s many beautiful beaches-must participate in a timed 1K ocean swim to be considered for hire. The two upcoming tryouts, both of which will be held at Goleta Beach, are scheduled for Sunday, March 29, and Sunday, April 5, both at 11 a.m. Participants (ages 18+ only) must first fill out an application at, and can call the county’s aquatics coordinator at 729-7508 for more information.
