The Community Environmental Council’s Energy Specialist Tam Hunt announced this week that he is leaving to become the director for Continental Wind Power’s new renewable energy consulting group. Nationally recognized for his expertise on alternative energy, Hunt, who famously helped defeat a proposal for an LNG terminal at the eastern end of the Santa Barbara Channel in 2007, will be providing towns, cities, counties, and companies with a plan of attack for becoming energy efficient.

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians’ Environmental Department and the Chumash Casino Resort’s Facilities Department have received the 2009 Environmental Achievement Award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA’s award program recognized Chumash efforts to protect and preserve the environment. The casino currently has a white roof to reflect sunlight and keep the structure cooler, a waste sorting program, a wastewater treatment plant, and employee and customer shuttle buses.
