Update: Fire Has Impact on Sports Competitions

UPDATE: All games and sports events scheduled at UCSB and local high schools today (Fri., May 8) have been canceled, postponed or relocated. The Channel League Swimming Finals will take place today at Ventura College at 2 p.m. The baseball and softball games between Santa Barbara High and San Marcos have been canceled, as has the volleyball match between Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos. San Marcos will play at Buena in a 5 p.m. volleyball match to decide the Channel League’s third-place berth in the CIF playoffs.

Athletes, coaches and community leaders of past and present will be honored at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s 42nd annual Hall of Fame banquet on Monday night at the DoubleTree Resort. Friends and family of the new inductees-Jeff Azain (San Marcos and Westmont basketball), Ati Conner (Dos Pueblos wrestling), Ken Duncan (Carpinteria football, basketball, and track), Jenny Hehnke (Dos Pueblos softball pitcher), Amelia White-Escalante (SBHS and UCSB tennis star), Virgil Elings (generous benefactor), Mike Beresford (volleyball coach), and the late Stubby Herman (legendary umpire)-are advised to reserve their places at Questions?
