Actor and talk show host Gary Collins arrived at the Santa Barbara County Jail early on Wednesday morning to have a global positioning system (GPS) tracking device placed on his ankle. It will track him while he serves a 120-day sentence at his home for a DUI conviction.
Collins was arrested in Summerland on January 31, 2009, after being pulled over for “driving erratically” in a motor home at the intersection of Lillie Avenue and Olive Street.
During his sentence, Collins is allowed to leave his home for four hours per week to run errands, as well as go to work. Collins will receive credit and be released from the program after 72 days if he abides by the rules.
Sara Tan is an Independent intern.

Truth, what you ain't realizing is there's 3 types of defense in the courts:
1) The $1,000 defense, most common to us hard working folks, will get us a plea bargain, some time served, fines to be paid & it stays on our record.
2) The $10,000 defense, usually for trust fund babies who's parents want them to 'learn a lesson" fom their wrongdoing, but don't want them to be exposed to the criminal riff raff known as common folks. This defense will usually have the defendant end up in having to pay a minimal fine & their record will be expunged.
3) The $100,000 defense, especially for celebrities, guarantees that they get off scot-free w/ no time served, no fines levied & no mention of any wrongdoing in their record/file.
Well, @ least you & I know what color plays a huge part in crime & punishment these days: GREEN! Nope, ain't talking enviro here, just the color of currency :) henry

And to add to the to comments above, this is not Collin's first time that he's driven drunk. Yes, it's *very* frustrating that he seems to be able to stay out of jail.
