If you’re looking for a family-friendly way to celebrate the last throes of an S.B. Indian summer with your little ones, head up to the Santa Ynez Valley this weekend for a Kids’ Old-Fashioned Fishing Day at the Cachuma Lake Nature Center (Hwy. 154, Santa Ynez). Young anglers aged 5-15 will fish for rainbow trout with the help of adult volunteers. Bamboo fishing poles, bobbers, and bait will be provided. Adults with current fishing licenses can participate alongside them. Fishing starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, and is free with $8 per vehicle park admission. Call 693-0691 for more info.

Don't let the little ones put their fingers in the water!
Big fine!
I would like to know which idiotic government agency decided that the 2 lakes we have around here are prohibited to swim in?
There are hundreds of lakes in California that are also reservoirs....where you can swim to your hearts desire.
The rediculous ban makes no sense, and I have been trying for years to find out how it came about.
My gut feeling is that it is a way for the park to pay for the upkeep....by levying outrageous fines for sticking your hand in the water.
JUNK SCIENCE is the culprit.
Let's take back our lakes! I personally swim in them whenever the dreaded rangers are not around...ha ha.

I did once ask a ranger over at Cachuma....I love his answer....even if it makes zero sense.
This is when I asked him why you can have a speed boat and dump tons of oil and gas in our lake but are not allowed to swim, or even touch the water.
Speedboats don't get Hepatitis!
Brain death is a terrible disease....and there is an epidemic of it in the Forest Service.

No wonder the disadvantaged SB kiddies end up on the street and turn into gangsta's. The SB wealthy regulate, cite, and fine anybody who even thinks about having any fun and not paying for it! Lake Cachuma belongs to everybody, and not only to fill exclusive residential pools. We should insist that they open our lake so the poor kiddies can learn to swim and enjoy a dip. How could that possibly be a crime? Just be sure the firefighting super-scooper doesn't swoop them up!!!
