UCSB Opens NCAA Soccer Tournament Against Wofford

Dos Pueblos High wants to put a stop to Huntington Beach’s spoiler ways in the CIF 1A girls volleyball championships. The top-seeded Chargers will meet the sixth-seeded Oilers in the finals at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Cypress College.

Dos Pueblos (29-2) has recorded four straight sweeps in the playoffs. The Chargers defeated Laguna Beach in the semifinals Tuesday by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 15-13.

Second-seeded Santa Barbara, the defending CIF champion, saw its hopes for a rematch with Dos Pueblos dashed by Huntington Beach. The Dons went out in four games (25-21, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-19). In the quarterfinals, Huntington Beach ousted third-seeded Marymount in five games. The Oilers are 16-10.

Laguna Blanca (20-1) will face Whittier Christian in the 4AA championship match. The seventh-seeded Owls knocked off second-seeded St. Margaret’s on Tuesday, 25-23, 12-25, 25-23 and 25-18. Whittier Christian (26-2) is the top seed.
