Another daunting week is ahead for high school football teams in the area. Carpinteria plays host to the state’s No. 2-ranked team, Oaks Christian, which is coming off a 65-6 mauling of Bishop Diego. Bishop, meanwhile, will face Nordhoff, which would be the Tri-Valley League favorite if Oaks Christian were not in the league.

The competitive playing field will be level at Santa Barbara High’s Peabody Stadium, where Dos Pueblos will visit the Dons on Friday night in the first round of the “City Championship” series. “It’s going to be fun,” DP coach Jeff Uyesaka said. “This game is just what we need.” In another Channel League game, San Marcos will host Ventura.

SBCC showcases two Western State Conference leaders this week. The men’s soccer team, undefeated in October, hosts L.A. Mission on Thursday night at La Playa Stadium. The women’s volleyball team, riding a 12-match winning streak into the week, faces Hancock College on Friday night at the Sports Pavilion. The action continues at La Playa on Saturday evening when the Vaqueros hit the football field against L.A. Pierce.

In prep girls volleyball, Laguna Blanca entertains San Marcos in an interesting nonleague match Wednesday, while Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos have home matches Thursday as they get ready for their October 27 showdown at Santa Barbara.
