Injuries in Gang Fight

Milpas Area Crime Scene

At least one youth has reportedly been hospitalized with serious injuries following an apparent gang fight or assault in the Milpas Street area. The Santa Barbara Police Department has so far not dispensed much information. However, at about 6 p.m. a police spokesperson said there were no fatalities; earlier, a detective said a car hit a bicyclist on Carpinteria Street, possibly on purpose in conjunction with fighting nearby. Reports from the area are sketchy and contradictory. Businesspeople in the area said kids were kicking each other on Milpas Street soon after school today; there were also reports of baseball bats being used as weapons.
