Yahoo!Part dreamy, fantastic pop, part power-chord-driven rock, Sara Lov’s Seasoned Eyes Were Beaming succeeds even with its seemingly overcrowded aesthetic. Despite being Lov’s first full-length to date, Seasoned Eyes is rich with warm, orchestrated layers of instrumentation and lyrics that recall seasoned songwriters like Alison Goldfrapp and Hope Sandoval. Organs, cellos, toy pianos, and vibraphones adorn the majority of the record, giving tracks like “Touched” and “Old Friends” a delicate yet deliberate splash of twee, while the folksy “Animals” (featuring guest vocals from Sea Wolf’s Alex Brown Church) calls to mind the early, lo-fi recordings of Rilo Kiley. By Seasoned Eyes’ close, Lov manages to find that hard-to-get balance between childlike fantasy and intelligent songwriting, making for an album that’s both thought-provoking and easy to curl up with.
