Santa Barbara City Councilmember Das Williams picked up endorsements from two political heavyweights associated with the state Democratic Party—the California Nurses Association and the California Teachers Association—in his campaign to secure the party’s nomination to replace Pedro Nava as 35th Assembly District member. Williams is running against Susan Jordan, a former Santa Barbara County Planning Commissioner with statewide environmental credentials. Jordan, who is Nava’s spouse, said the endorsements were valuable, but mostly to political insiders. “Most voters care more about what you stand for and whether you can be independent of the special interests or not,” she said.
