TOP SPORTING EVENTS: AUGUST 17-22

The hills around Westmont College will be alive with the sound of running strides Thursday evening (Aug. 19) when the college hosts the first Westmonster 5K Run. The cross country fund-raiser, open to the public, will start at 6:15 p.m. on Westmont’s Lovik Field and finish on the school’s new track. It will be followed by a free kids 1K run and dinner for all participants.

Online registration is available at westmont.edu. The cost is $30 for adults, $15 for high school and college students and $10 for children 11-14. The entry fee includes a t-shirt. Participants may also arrive early and register on race day.

On Friday night, the college soccer season gets underway, as UCSB hosts Cal State Northridge in a women’s game. The Gaucho men play Saturday night in their annual exhibition game against Westmont.

Season tickets for UCSB soccer are on sale. Several different plans are available. A basic season ticket costing $75 will include admission to all Gaucho men’s and women’s home games and an all-session ticket to the College Cup, the NCAA men’s championship which UCSB will host on December 10-12.

Tickets can be purchased online (ucsbgauchos.com), by phone (893-UCSB) or at the ticket office in the UCSB Intercollegiate Athletics Building. There are free parking spaces outside the building next to Robertson Gym.
