    TOP SPORTING EVENTS: FEBRUARY 9-21

A full house is expected tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 9) at San Marcos High when the Royals host the Dos Pueblos Chargers in a boys basketball game. It’s the last week of the regular season, and both teams are vying for a share of the Channel League championship.

SBCC’s women have a shot at the Western State Conference North title. At 7-1, they are a game behind top-ranked Ventura College, which comes into the Sports Pavilion to face the Vaqueros at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Vaqs are led by sophomore guard Francesca DeAngelis, the WSC’s leading scorer. She has scored 20 points or more in her last five games.

Westmont College also has key home games Wednesday against California Baptist.

UCSB will be unveiling its newest “Legends of the Dome” – former women’s basketball coach Mark French and 1980s Gaucho star Brian Shaw – at the women’s game Thursday night and the men’s Saturday afternoon.

Coaches Lindsay Gottlieb and Bob Williams will discuss their prospects on the weekly “Talk’n Gauchos” radio show today. It airs live (6-7 pm) on KIST 1490 AM from the State & A Bar and Grill in downtown Santa Barbara. Full disclosure: I will also be a guest on this evening’s show.
