Feat of Clay

I have been reading and enjoying Barney Brantingham’s articles in the News-Press and The Independent since I moved to Santa Barbara back in 1986 to attend UCSB. But I did not appreciate him writing, a couple weeks ago, “… remember the old saying that racism and intolerance reach a peak at 11 a.m. on Sundays.” [“A Bible in Every Room—or Not,” 6/24/10]. With that statement, he is bashing on the Christian religion just like he says the Christian religion bashes on others, and joining the ranks of those who are racist and intolerant. I cannot believe that Barney, of all people, has stooped to that level.

Are there Christians who are racist and intolerant? You bet. But there are also millions and millions of people who are racist and intolerant who are not Christians. And there are millions upon millions of Christians who are not racist and intolerant. I just wish Barney hadn’t used that particular statement in the way he did. It makes me view him in a totally different way that I really don’t want to view him in.—Aaron Solis, S.B.
