Man Accused of Attempted Murder in Gillespie Shooting

Wife Facing Charge of Accessory After the Fact

Lompoc resident Jack Mills, charged with attempted murder for the March 1 Gillespie Street shooting that left a 31-year-old Westside resident with a gunshot wound, was arraigned this morning. Mills—along with his wife Rebecca, who is being held for accessory after the fact—allegedly entered the victim’s home looking for a cash-filled safe, and shot him in the forehead before fleeing to Nevada.

Police tracked the couple down just outside Las Vegas, where Mills was hiding out in the same 1993 black Volvo sedan that witnesses spotted outside the scene of the crime. Mills is being represented by Defense attorney Michael Carty, and pleaded not guilty to the charges, denying special circumstances. The case is being prosecuted by Hilary Dozer, and will resume with a preliminary hearing set to take place on July 14.
