Dana Larsen and Craig Ilenstine were sentenced to community service for not having proper equipment for brush-clearing activities, a charge stemming from the DA’s Office investigation of the Jesusita Fire. Attorneys for the two said they acted with good intent, and when they left the scene where they had been clearing brush along the Jesusita Trail, there was no fire. Judge Jean Dandona, who handed down the sentence despite a plea from the prosecution for jail time, had earlier dismissed a more serious count which could’ve led to the two being responsible for criminal restitution.

Community service? Isn't this what got them into trouble in the first place?

As with the Tea Fire, congratulations to the brilliant legal system of Santa Barbara that again lets those off who cause the horrendously damaging fires that plague our community.
Great to hear that the moron fire bugs acted with "good intent". Perhaps such intent can help pay for the destruction of the Botanic Gardens and the tens of millions of dollars of homes damage and fire-fighting costs?
And it surely again sets the precedent that malicious, criminally stupid actions should be ignored. Maybe the masterminds of the 9/11 terrorist attacks can get Judge Jean as their jurist?

I've heard enough witness testimony to have probable cause to believe this fire was started by a piece of errant rocket from Vandenberg.
If you want to charge these people for the damages, you better PROVE it was them, not just make assumptions.
