Man Killed in Suspected Drunk Driving Accident

Second Fatal Incident in Two Days on Highway 154

Thursday evening, just a day after a man was killed in an unrelated accident on Highway 154, another man lost his life on Highway 154 just east of Lake Cachuma in what is believed to be a drunk driving incident.

According to CHP reports, Manuel Garcia, 49, of Santa Ynez suffered fatal injuries when the sedan he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle at around 8:15 p.m. near Circle V Ranch. Garcia’s wife, Asuncion, was also in the car and was badly hurt. She was rushed to Cottage Hospital, but her condition is unknown at this time.

The driver of the other car, whose name has not been released but was described by the CHP as a 42-year-old man from Ventura, also suffered major injuries and was taken to Cottage Hospital.

Though the cause of the accident is still under investigation, the man was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The CHP would not release any further information while the case is ongoing.
