“Small art and love and beauty their drudging spirits knew,” says the century-old song. “Yes, it is bread we fight for, but we fight for roses, too.” Such is the case for the Fund for Santa Barbara at its yearly wonderful fundraiser Bread & Roses. This year’s event happens Sunday, September 19, 4-8 p.m. at QAD in Summerland. “The Fund will be celebrating three decades of progressive organizing this year,” promises the fund’s Geoff Green. “We have stronger support than ever from Santa Barbara’s fabulous food and wine establishments—13 restaurants, seven wineries, two bakers, and a brewery—all donating 100 percent of the food and wine.” The 2009 event raised more than $150,000 for social, economic, environmental, and political change work, so by eating, and drinking, and bidding on auction items very well, you can help support your fellow Santa Barbarans. Tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door; call 962-9164.
