A Selfless Act

I’d like to recognize an outstanding and selfless act within our community, from a little hair shop on State St. For over ten years now, my friend’s mother Mrs. Donnally, has been battling with the worst monstrosity of a phoenix out there: Cancer! It has taken many from me, but has never hit as hard and as close to home as my mom. Even though Mrs. Donnally isn’t my mother, she sure hasn’t bothered “standing in” in the past! For that, I will never be able to repay. I have however, been growing my hair for the past two years, and the time has come where it is long enough to be cut and donated.

On Monday, April 18 I will walk into Kimberly’s Hair Pieces and Wigs (located at 1425 State St.) and the owner Kimberly will cut my hair, which is cornering 14 inches long. From there, Kimberly has agreed to donate her materials, skill, and time to create a custom Human Hair Wig for Mrs. Donnally. Mrs. Donnally lives in Chesapeake, Virginia and has only seen Santa Barbara from pictures and television. When I first started approaching wig makers to render their services for a great woman, my calls and voicemails were lost! Kimberly has never met Mrs. Donnally or even seen a picture of her, and from the kindness of her heart and the integrity of her shop, she didn’t miss a beat to gladly accept the responsibility. After hearing a short synopsis of the story, Kimberly agreed to render her services free of charge. This process can take up to eight weeks and can cost thousands of dollars.

If there is any way possible for me to show how grateful I am and how touched Mrs. Donnally is going to be for Kimberly and her shop’s good deed and philanthropic spirits, I would like to let the community know! As a friend, as a brother, and as your neighbor, it is the times like these with today’s economy and the distance that grows between every one of us, that we need to remember: “It is the conscientious, selfless acts in our everyday lives that separate us from other species and allow us to love! Look out for one another, even if you’ve never met, for this will bring us closer and make us better people.”
