You can almost as easily tell where a person is from based on their take on BBQ as you can their accent. Pork or beef? Dry rub or marinade? Sweet sauce or tangy? These friendly arguments will be answered on Saturday, August 13, from 1-4 p.m. at a Memphis vs. Santa Maria BBQ Cook-Off at the Margerum Wine Company Winery (5249 Foxen Canyon Rd., Los Olivos, margerumwinecompany.com). Skilled chefs from each locale will grill up their region’s best ’cue, and the lucky attendees will get to choose a winner. Not surprisingly, guests will get to wash that down with plenty of Margerum, Cimarone/3CV, Happy Canyon, and Cent’Anni wines. It’s sure to be a contest where everyone ends up finely fed winners, and there’ll be no Memphis blues at all.
