Ms. Thorn claims the Occupy Wall Street movement “has been promoted by the Main Street (sic) Media as a grassroots protest by some kids victimized by college debt who are mad at the rich and corporations.” As usual, if reality intrudes on her right-wing echo chamber, Ms. Thorn puts her hands over her ears and shouts “la-la-la, I can’t hear you.” In spite of the portrayal by some in the media, the protest is much more widely based than the writer and others of her ilk would like you to believe. Many employed Americans and those looking for work are legitimately upset that one percent of the population controls 40% of the wealth in our country. With all due respect, it’s not because they work harder. It’s because they use their wealth and power to buy and sell corrupt politicians of both parties.
The writer’s list of “supporters” of the Occupy movement is ludicrous. Her sources (if there are any) remain anonymous. One could counter that the Tea Party movement is supported by the Aryan Nation, XE Services (formerly Blackwater), Karl Rove, Grover Norquist, the Heritage Foundation, the Koch brothers, Goldman-Sachs, Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. This would not, however, be an effective argument as it would probably be misconstrued as a compliment.
Ms. Thorn continues, “The group’s Web site reports its link to the violent uprisings in Europe and the Middle East.” Is she referring to the “Arab Spring” where revolutions overthrew dictators who had brutalized their people (Tunisia, Egypt, Libya) for decades? When is fighting for freedom and justice a bad thing? Is it, perhaps, when it upsets your own applecart? When a rigged game gives the poor and middle class rotten apples, the result is not likely to be apple pie.

Well presented! Thanks for writing this.
In your list of Tea Party supporters, you left out the actual creator of the 'movement' - Fox News.

Geeber: "Thank you Hank for finally providing some non- existant link to who knows what re/ Hezbollah support of OWS.
Oops, sorry, mispelled the link, it's actually almoquawama.org or almoquawama alislamia.org.
Here's a nother pearl for you:
From wikipedia: "Hezbollah has a military branch known as Al-Muqawama al-Islamiyya ("The Islamic Resistance"), and is the possible sponsor of a number of lesser-known groups, some of which may be little more than fronts for Hezbollah itself. These groups include the Organization of the Oppressed, the Revolutionary Justice Organization, the Organization of Right Against Wrong, and Followers of the Prophet Muhammad.[1][2][3]
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1559 called for the disarmament of militia[4] with the Taif agreement at the end of the Lebanese civil war. Hezbollah denounced, and protested against, the resolution."
You trust wikipedia, right? After all, most writers for them are of the "progressive" sect.
So yeah, the same organization w/ the above listed link supoorts occupest Wall St. Again, sorry for the mispell.
Oh, by the way, read em' & weep :) henry

From the putzbowler support site, quotes from an editorial (NOT A NEWS FEATURE):
"Among those policies is, of course, the United States' carte blanche support for Israel. The protesters called for an end to Washington's practice of spending taxpayer money on Israeli crimes.
A contingent from the Occupy Boston protest camp marched on Friday to the building that houses the Israeli consulate in Boston and held a brief sit-in in the building's lobby.
They chanted various slogans, including, "hey hey, Ho ho! Israeli apartheid's got to go!," "long live the intifada! intifada intifada!," "not another nickel! Not another dime! No more money for Israel's crimes!," and "Viva, viva Palestina!" "
Nice! Gotta love it! But this 1 is just oh, so touching:
"The American public, however, have shown after 50 days that they are inspired by the Islamic Awakening and are ready to stand until their demands are met."
Aw, shucks, ain't that just so cute, makes my brown skin blush :) henry

I threw out bait hoping to catch a big fish, but ended up with a small-fry on the line. Call this post "catch and release."
The Communist Party USA, Louis Farrakhan, Hugo Chavez, etc. have voiced support for the "Occupy" movement. This is true. It's also irrelevant. Their support does not mean those demonstrators are Communists, religious extremists or South American dictators. It matters not that certain unsavory elements support the movement. The only questions should be - what is the cause and is the cause just?
The rich get richer by convincing corrupt politicians and their gullible constituents that they are the "job creators." Yet, during the Clinton administration, taxes on the upper tier of incomes were raised to 39.6%. Twenty-three million jobs were created in eight years. During the following administration of George W. Bush, and after his tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 lowering that rate to 35%, three million net jobs were created. (source: Wall Street Journal). Those cuts blew a $1.7 TRILLION hole in the deficit. (source Center on Budget and Policy Priorities). We are now being asked to reduce the deficit by slashing funding for Social Security and Medicare while making the tax cuts permanent. Protests on these issue are legitimate.
The recent "violent Arab uprisings" have been brought into this discussion. FYI - The deposed dictators and their political and military apparatus used the same propaganda tactics being defended here. They tried to undermine those revolutions for freedom and justice by pointing out the support of Western imperialists. At the top of their list was, of course, President Barack Obama.

Robert: "The Communist Party USA, Louis Farrakhan, Hugo Chavez, etc. have voiced support for the "Occupy" movement. This is true. It's also irrelevant."
Actually, not irrelevant, to me anyways. As somebody born in a communist country & was fortunate enough to get the hell out, why do I want people, supposedly speaking for me, to send us into that type of system?
But enough w/ that. The question I got is this: Even IF the supoport by unsavory characters is "irrelevant" as you say, do the occupy folks back the movements the unsavory characters are about?
Islamists view: DEATH TO ISRAEL!
A contingent of occupy Boston participant's chants: "long live the intifada! intifada intifada!"
PLO's view (under hamas & hezbollah, not Abbas): Both of the above.
I know, intifada means struggle in Arabic. But in PLO's definition of it was to destroy Israel.
So now you got a bunch of the occupy folks shouting similar, if not like, slogans. Does this qualify as support by proxy? :) henry

This is a false dichotomy. In anticipation of such a response, I believe I've already addressed that issue. As I said, their (Communist Party USA) support does not mean the demonstrators are communists or supporters of communism.
Islamic extremists will use any forum to express their hate-filled anti-Israel views. This includes Tea Party rallies and 4th of July picnics. No, I don't think this qualifies as "support by proxy."
The grievances raised by the majority of protesters regarding our country's rigged economic system are legitimate and need to be taken seriously.

I agree to a degree, but all those Che Guevarra t-shirts in occupest Oakland & the commentary by those involved as well as the editorial in a putz-bollah rag as well as the chants by a contingent of participants tell me a way different story.
We beg to differ, that is the beauty of life, I appreciate that beauty, I hope you do too.
Robert: "The grievances raised by the majority of protesters regarding our country's rigged economic system are legitimate and need to be taken seriously."
This I wholeheartedly agree w/. But an urban camping trip disguised as a 1st Amendment right to protest is an annoyance that has turned focus away from the issues.
The whole thing started out w/ good intentions, but it went to hell in a handbasket when the fringe occupied the occupation & certain occupiers welcomed said occupation :) henry

I always thought that the letter writer and D. Thorn should create their own local version of the old 60 Minutes "Point-Counterpoint," or better yet perhaps, the SNL parody of it: "Jane, you ignorant...." These two were doing this left/right dog and pony show for years at the Daily Sound until even that pub, starved for any attention as it is, apparently got tired of it.
Hey, maybe they're best friends in "real life?"
