Animal Shelter Assistance Program, aka ASAP, is having an adoption fair on Saturday, December 10, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Fifty percent off all adoptions. ASAP is located at 5473 Overpass Road in Goleta.

On Sunday, December 11, 1-9 p.m., ASAP is having a “Rockin’ for the Kitties” benefit at the Creekside, 4444 Hollister Road in Goleta. It will be a chance to kick back and have fun — great music, raffle items, games, snacks, and a cash bar. The door fee is $10; every penny goes to support ASAP’s critical work of saving cats’ lives!

There is a lineup of great bands that will play all day long, BBQ chicken dinners will be sold, and there will be a raffle every 30 minutes.

Home for the Howlidays Pet Drive

The nonprofit CARE4Paws (www.care4paws.org) will host this fun-filled adoption event, Saturday, December 3, 10 a.m.-3p.m., Ark Pet & Supply in Carpinteria, which will feature some of Santa Barbara County shelter’s most amazing doggie pals, all looking for forever and temporary foster homes this holiday season.

Ark Pet & Supply (1090 Casitas Pass Rd.) will offer specials on pet essentials as well as give out goodie bags to those who adopt or decide to foster a furry friend. A team of experienced CARE4Paws and county shelter volunteers will also there on the day to offer valuable information and tips about the dogs.

CARE4Paws (Community Awareness, Responsibility, Education), is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that promotes responsible pet ownership and animal welfare through early education and bilingual/bicultural community outreach, affordable spays and neuters, dog training intervention workshops, pit bull education, and county-wide adoption events, such as the annual Wags ‘n’ Whiskers Festival.

Holiday Street Fair Adoption Event

Second Chance Cocker Rescue, Inc. (SCCR) and the Pet House have invited K-9 Placement and Assistance League, Inc. (K-9 PALS) and Cold Noses Warm Hearts, Inc. to its annual Holiday Street Fair and Adoption Event at the Pet House in the Calle Real Shopping Center in Goleta. During the event, people looking to adopt a dog this holiday season can visit the pet store to see many wonderful dogs for adoption.

The three nonprofit organizations will have about 20 small-, medium-, and large-breed dogs for adoption available to meet at the Pet House location on Saturday, December 10, 10 a.m-3 p.m. Other fun features to help with promotion, outreach, and fundraising for the organizations include a bake sale, jewelry and pet item sale, strolling carolers, and a wandering Santa Claus.

Every dog that gets adopted on the day of the event will go home with a handmade fleece blanket. All the rescue groups and Animal Shelter dogs are spayed/neutered and have current vaccinations. Adoption fees for each organization vary.

Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter dog adoption fees will be discounted 50 percent; K-9 PALS generously sponsors four free dog-behavior training sessions as part of the adoption for County Shelter dogs.

The Pet House is located at 5871 Calle Real, Goleta, next to Trader Joe’s, and is open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sundays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m..

Georgia

Adoptable Pet of the Week

Georgia is a beautiful female shih tzu, who is only 5 years old. She is very laid back and would make a great family dog. She weighs 20 pounds and is good with other dogs as well as cats.

If Georgia sounds like the perfect dog for you, call (805) 681-4397 and leave a message for Georgia. Complete a no-obligation SBCAS adoption application, and we’ll set up a time to meet Georgia. Thank you for saving another life.

Or you can stop by the shelter, 5473 Overpass Road, Santa Barbara to meet Georgia. Dog-viewing hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:45 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All County Shelter dogs are spayed/neutered and have current vaccinations before adoption. All adoptions come with four FREE group dog-training sessions at the shelter.

Do you love dogs, but can’t have a pet? Volunteer at the shelter or make a donation to K-9 PALS to help pay for the medical and prescription foods for the shelter dogs. Volunteer “open house” is held the second Saturday of the month at 9 a.m. For details about volunteering at the County Animal Services, Santa Barbara Animal Shelter, call (805) 681-4397.
