Heart-ing Truffles and Vino

There’s always the possibility that we associate chocolate with love because if our lover disappoints, at least we’ve got a beautiful bonbon to enjoy, and afterward there’s no need for conversation. That doesn’t mean couples, and everyone, won’t be chatting up a charming storm this weekend Saturday, February 12, and Sunday, February 13, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., when the Santa Barbara Winery (202 Anacapa Street, 963-3633, sbwinery.com) tasting room has a literally sweet deal: six handmade truffles from Jessica Foster accompanied by six matching wines. Foster, a 2010 Independent Foodie Winner, finds her confectionary inspiration at the Farmers Market, and amazes with the variety and subtlety of her chocolates. They should make lovely matches with Santa Barbara Winery pours, especially since the Lafonds have been making area wine since 1962, and the Lafond label, up since 2001, captures the luscious best of Sta. Rita Hills. After all, candy is dandy, but wine tasting might make your valentine quicker.
