Music Academy Holds Open House

Classical Music Fans Can Catch Free Concerts This Thursday, July 14

The Music Academy of the West will hold a free open house this Thursday, July 14 starting at 11 a.m. The day-long musical event will consist of tours of the facility and musical shows, beginning with a garden tour at 11 a.m. and a performance by the Music Academy’s MERIT program, a two-week music intensive for young musicians. The day’s events include a show by master pianist Jerome Lowenthal at 1 p.m. in Lehmann Hall, a preview tour of the newly completed Luria Education Center at 2:30 p.m., and three shows at 3:15 p.m. Attendees can select between a string chamber concert in Lehmann Hall, a piano master class at Stewart Hall, and a brass ensemble in Hahn Hall.

Young children might be happy to hear that they can take a break from classical music and watch TV. At 5:30 p.m. there will be a screening of Nigel Watt’s 1994 documentary Marilyn Horne, A Profile. Following the movie, the Music Academy will hold a reception and unveil a bust of Horne in the Towbes Courtyard, presented by the Women’s Auxiliary of the Music Academy of the West. Finally, an evening picnic tkaes place at 7 p.m.
