Passing motorists prevented a 17-year-old Oxnard girl from jumping off the Cold Spring Canyon Bridge on 7/18. Authorities received a call of a young woman who appeared to be texting while walking on the bridge, and who looked like she might jump. Several people stopped their cars and pulled her away from the edge. The woman, who had left a suicide note in her vehicle, struggled quite a bit until CHP officers responded. County mental health officials arrived and took her to Cottage Hospital, where she was met by her family.

I am so glad that people stopped when seeing this girl. As the mom of a 17 year old, I have watched my own child suffer and think that their world is over. It is so hard getting them to comprehend that life changes, time passes, friends come and go, it does get better, etc... I am happy that she has a second chance.

Caring human beings, not ugly fences prevent suicide. Hats off to the folks that recognized a situation and actually did something about it.

Caring humans definitely can prevent suicides. So can caring humans who erect fences around dangerous jumping places!

Caring humans erect fences placing more value on saving human lives over and against someones "ugly" opinion!
