National Trails Day Event Planned in Santa Barbara June 4

Los Padres National Forest and the Front Country Trails Program—a joint program of the U.S. Forest Service and City and County of Santa Barbara—will recognize National Trails Day by performing much-needed general maintenance on the Rattlesnake Trail.

Los Padres National Forest and the Front Country Trails Program—a joint program of the U.S. Forest Service and City and County of Santa Barbara—will recognize National Trails Day by performing much-needed general maintenance on the Rattlesnake Trail. The trail is located in the foothills of Santa Barbara just above Skofield Park.

Members of the public interested in volunteering to help on the project should meet at Skofield Park, 1819 Las Canoas Road, on June 4 at 8:00 am. Participants will then carpool to the upper trailhead of Rattlesnake Trail where they will be divided into two crews. One crew will work on cutting brush from the trailhead to the meadow, while a second crew will hike out to the connector trail and give it some long overdue care.

Remember to bring water, sunscreen, a snack and be sure to wear long pants and close-toed shoes. You may wish to bring gloves and a bike helmet if you have them, or use those which will be provided. Please remember that trail work involves sharp tools and can be dangerous for young children.

For more information or to RSVP, please contact Front Country Trails Coordinator Rebecca Mordini at (805) 698-5455, or by email at sbfct1@gmail.com.
